I have a 9 wk old male cockapoo. He has been in our family for less than a week but for the last 2 days he has been displaying very aggressive behaviour. He growls, snaps, barks & lunges at everyone. You can hear his teeth snapping together & it is very frightening to my 2 sons who are aged 7 & 4. He doesn't seem to respond to me yelping, ignoring him, saying no. He just carries on & sometimes then barks. Even when he is cuddling he will still snap at my hair & I worry he will catch my face. I know some of it will be puppy behaviour but I have been searching on the net & no one else seems to have such a bad problem. I am very upset about it as my eldest child has always been terrified of dogs & I hoped our own puppy would help him see that most dogs are lovely - my plan definitely seems to have backfired! Please could someone give me some advice on this very distressing situation. I also have 2 cats - they avoid him & I don't think he has noticed them yet but I would be very worried about introducing them.

Sorry to hear about your situation. During the first few weeks with my puppy, she would hide under the bed, and try to snap my fingers off. Typically when my cockapoo would take something.
Alot of this aggression could be jealousy and or, not knowing right from wrong. To curb my puppies behavior, we used a cage, and when she would snap, or growl, we would pick her up, put her in the cage, and walk away for 2 mins. Anything longer and the dog will forget why they are in there.
After letting out of the cage we praised her, and went on with our day.
My pup is 3 years old now, and time to time growls, and even to this day if she out of line, she get the cage.
The cage seemed to be the best method, as it doesn't hurt the dog, it's just a better way of say No, since dogs can't understand a word we say anyways, they only know repetition.
I would also recommend puppy training, from your local vet, or local pet store. I went to petsmart and that was good for the basic commands and socialization.
hope this helps.

Hi i wondered how this had progressed vour male pup is 11wks and has moments through the day where he will do this. Its not just normal puppy biting hes angry! We put him in his crate through necessesity as he wont stop!! The rest of the time he is loving, sweet and eager to please. Im hoping when he can go out walking next week this will calm him down? Would be great to hear how you got on.

Mine will do that when he is worked up wanting to chase the cat but being restrained or otherwise just not getting his way. I find him much more likely to do this if he hasn't gotten enough exercise that day. Still wondering how to get him to stop chasing the cat!

Has this question ever been answered? I see that these other questions/comments were made in 2013. Well, it's 2015 and my year old Cockapoo has had this problem since I brought him home from the breeder! I've been told "Oh, Cockers can be snippy!" We have been through two training courses that were NOT just new puppy classes. The shock collar only served to make him madder. HELP, if anyone has truly solved this problem please tell me how? Thanks

We started using the clicker for training and this has been amazing! Really helps train the dog very easily....

Hi, I'm a new cockapoo puppy owner. We've had our Molly for a month now. She's 3 months old and we absolutely adore her BUT I have seen her little dark side too. She has a definit stubborn streak and an absolute mania for chewing on fingers, clothing, and my hair! Now I'm no expert but I decided right from the get go that I wasn't going to allow nipping etc. so I have been diligent on correcting this behavior. Truly she just wants to play and teeth but this could develope into very bad habitual behavior so it has to be addressed. I simply use my voice whenever she does it. A harsh anntt! Loud and unpleasant. She knows. Honestly I've found her to be extremely intelligent and also very eager to please so she actually thrives on short fun training sessions. Work on overall training with your puppy. Simple commands like sit, stay and come. Coming when called is huge! Once you have that down it really helps. Correct calmly and consistently and be generous with your praise and use treats. There are many, many good training tips all over the web. Read up on them. I also suspect that your pup may be a little defensive and afraid of the youngsters. Understandable. Sometimes children can be a little rough with young pups without realizing it. Envolve them in the short FUN training sessions too. They will love it!

Hi I have just been reading about some of your problems its growling and snapping. Our cockapoo is 2 1/2 lye are old now and we still experience problems. She will growl and snap even at us. It is usually when she is guarding we think or if she is startled. We have been on puppy training and paid for a behaviour consultation but still no luck. We are now in the process of engaging a behaviourist to help us because it is getting out of control. She has bitten me and our daughter. Only marked but it has drawn blood. We love our dog so much but cannot allow this to continue. Good luck all.

Hi, I have had my gorgeous cockapoo now for three months, she is six months old... all is going ok but I work fulltime and worry that because I leave her in the day with members of my family she will get confused as to who is who? I know it might sound a little crazy but it does worry me .... She sits when asked, will come when called when off the lead and is very energetic so I make sure that she has a good play in the park before I take her home .. when we get home she goes crazy and does not stop until about 9.00pm ..... she has lots of activity toys to play with but just seems to go crazy when we get home ??
