I have always had cats so owning a pup is new for me, but we are so glad we have her! We have definitely fallen madly in love with our Maggie. She is almost 7 months old and most days she is full of puppy energy, but there are days where she will sleep a large portion of the day. Is this normal? I have to be honest, some days I feel like I'm boring her!

She is almost 7 months old and most days she is full of puppy energy, but there are days where she will sleep a large portion of the day. Is this normal? I have to be honest, some days I feel like I'm boring her! Hi and thanks for stopping by! Short answer: As long as she has energy when she is (or should be) excited, you have nothing to worry about. Long answer: Yes, this sort of thing is absolutely normal. So long as she doesn't seem sick or lethargic, she is just exercising her right to be lazy. And, like children or kittens, puppies nap quite a bit! Our little guy is 5 and still naps most of his day away. BUT...he can be sleeping one minute, and if when we ask him if he wants a treat, or if somebody knocks on the door...ZOOM. He is up like a rocket, full speed ahead! Hope this helps.

Thank you, I feel better now. She's such a great pup and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. She's definitely the one teaching me!

Hi, we've had our 9 wk old boy Teddy for over a week. We live in Ireland now where cockapoos are still not that common. He goes in & out of his comfy crate all day but when the door closes at night, all hell breaks loose. One night it was an hour & a half, another it was 10 minutes, last night 40 minutes. We're recently retired & have all the time in the world to devote to him & already he knows 'sit' & we're making good progress with 'wait'. We know the night time crating will get better, we need him to settle for his safety & our peace of mind, also we've had 2 cats for 4 yrs & they've retired upstairs since he arrived so we're hoping to teach him to live nicely with them (with the help of a baby gate on the stairs). He's not had his 2nd shots yet but I take him round the neighbourhood in my arms to get him used to sights & sounds. There are quite a few big dogs that run free here, not strays, they're just allowed to wander around - not good. Thats why I don't put him on the floor yet. We have a nice puppyproof back garden for him to chase round. He gets lots of play & lots of naps in the day but he never seems to go into a deep sleep & as soon as I move a muscle he's there beside me. At the moment I'm exhausted but he's such a character & as soon as that little propeller starts wagging he's forgiven. We're persevering with the training cos he's clever & we're confident he'll turn out to be a well behaved & wonderful boy (I'm saying this with my fingers & toes crossed.
